Zaharis PTO Board Meeting

Dec. 12, 2005

Attendees:

Julie Ritter, Cindy Siems, Kim Pearce, Cindy Huffman, Kathy Reed, and Diane McLaughlin

Treasury Report: Lara reported that we should have approx $11,000 in our account. All bills have been accounted for. Santa Breakfast/Holiday Boutique brought in $1,500. Upcoming outlays will include approximately $800 for the directory and $1000 for the yearbook supplement.

Request for funds: N/A.

Reimbursement Request: $75 for desserts for the teacher lunch.

Curtain Update: The bid came in at $7800. We will be splitting the cost with student council. We were all very happy to hear that price for nice lined curtains. Hopefully we can get them soon.

Teacher Lunch: We need help setting up for the lunch – it will be on Friday the 16th. Rosa’s is catering.

We missed Spirit Days last week for quarter sales. We thought it was going to be this week. Quarter Sales will be this Friday – the 16th. Julie will be the Board representative this week. We need to have Melinda verify future spirit days with Rocky.

Directory Update : KeriAnne has made the modifications we requested. Cindy will take it to the print shop. Post meeting update – it should be done on Friday or Monday. Cindy requested the labels for one per family. Hopefully we can deliver them before the break!

Santa Breakfast Recap: Advertising – next year we would like to place ads in the local newsletters to advertise the boutique.

Boutique tables/vendors – all went well – Julie sold 20 tables.

Red Mountain High School kids showed up and helped with the button table and clean up. They earned community service credits for helping us – and we appreciate the help!

Food – we sold out – there was a mix up with the Honey Bun vs the Pop Tart –but it went well.

Set Up – the crew did a great job – the place looked great!

Pictures – Rick did a fabulous job again this year – with lots of thanks to his parent volunteer helpers! We gave Santa and Rick movie bucks for their efforts in making this a wonderful event!

Clean Up – it was great to have Frank helping us! He was well worth every penny!

Science Fair: Cindy will create a flyer for the chili cook-off and send it to Kathy for concurrence. (probably not until January though!) The Science Fair will be on Friday, Jan 27th.

The Astronomy folks were booked for that night though.

Kim would like to do a Spring Book Fair in May. Scholastic is offering a summer reading program and we will probably go with them for this book fair. It will be a buy one get one free sale.

Soda’s : we still have a ton left. Any one who wants to help us with the soda issue can purchase a baker’s dozen for $2.50. The soda is stored on top of the shelves in the teachers work room – this is an on your honor system – just put your money labeled as SODA MONEY in the PTO box.

Diane McLaughlin will submit the request for a grant from the SunWise foundation by Dec 31. She will get with Rocky for more details needed for the application.

Diane McLaughlin said there was a possible way for us to get a free computer for PTO use, through the STRUT program. Post meeting notes – Cindy contacted them and will be picking up a refurbished unit from Red Mountain High School STRUT program this Friday.

Diane said she needed tax receipts for the telescope that was donated - $170 and one for the tortoises that were donated to Mrs. Struble’s class – for $200.

ECA Update: we are not getting all the tapes back in a timely manner. We are down to only doing one class per day – and it will be tight as kids get ill during this time of year! Cindy purchased the otter pops for the otter pop parties. We will send a note to the teachers first thing in January and let them know that the otter pops will be in the freezer and they can grab them and do the party when it is convenient for them.

Out next PTO Board meeting will be held on Jan 9h at 8:00 am.

The next Community meeting will be on Jan. 18th at 2pm.
