Zaharis PTO Board Meeting
Attendees:
Lara Mugge,
Directory update: Cindy S.
has been helping Nancy, our administration assistant, get the updates entered
in the system. They should have all the updates done this week. They will enter
in the DO NOT INCLUDE list and then compare Cindy H.s
change sheets to the data to make sure we have all changes.
Quarter Sales: Melinda is
trying to line up volunteers and find out how much stuff to buy. Julie will be
the PTO rep for the first one. It will be this week if Melinda is ready for
it.
Treasury Lara stated that we have approx $18,000 and we owe Entertainment books approx $8000 of that. T-shirts we owe $2500, and we have two outstanding approved expenditures amounting to approx $1000 so we are at about $6000
Betsy mentioned that we
might be short one more light for the carnival. She
will work on that issue.
The Board members met with
Rocky Poole after the last board meeting so we discussed some of the items
from that meeting.
We felt that it might be
good for Rocky to have at least one parent on the student council committee to
act as a Student Council Parent Liaison. They meet every other Friday we will
check with Rocky to see if he would like us to help recruit someone to help
him.
We went over our list of
items we approved last year but didnt get around to purchasing for one
reason or another. We deemed the curtains to be the most important item still.
We need to get a quote and Rocky was going to look into that with the
administration assistant, Carol.
Betsy was going to get a
quote on the die cuts and laser printer cartridges for each classroom. We still
need to wait to see if Rocky wants to take on any of these with student council
funds. Rocky was going to take our list to the next meeting and discuss it with
the student council members.
We rejected the idea for
seat cushions for each student for assemblies. This is a nice to have and we
felt like there would probably be a storage issue at this point.
Cindy was going to look into
who requested the K-8 magazine.
It was suggested to have
Sanitary Seat covers installed in each bathroom. There may be reasons why they
are not there (toilet plug-ups?)
Diane McLaughlin took the
materials for the Sun-Wise program to read over. She said that maybe after
Carnival she would have to fill out the applications and write the proposals.
Diane brought up a meeting
she had with Wynn Pendleton from the Valley Astronomers Club. Wynn said that
the telescope that we have at the school is extraordinary and we should invest
in a clam shell protector for it so we can leave it mounted at all times. This
would protect the telescope from the elements. The cost will be anywhere from
$2000 - $4000. Wynn would like to organize some Sky watch nights and teach some
of the parents how to use the equipment.
We discussed having a
Science night next year Chris Ginty will check with Mrs. Lang to see when
they are planning it. We would like to do the Chili Cookoff
again but we need to check with Mike for approval on that.
We would like to have the
telescope available the night of the Science night.
We discussed purchasing
wrist bands to sell at the PTO table, quarter sales etc. All thought it was a
great idea.
We will discuss the
suggestions for spending more at the next meeting after we get word back from
Rocky. But at this time our primary focus will be on curtains for the stage.
Santa Breakfast: We
currently dont have a Santa lined up. Betsy will start checking but if
anyone knows of anyone who would like to be the Santa at our event on Dec 3rd.
Please contact the PTO. The event will be from 8-11:30. Betsy will check on the
gym availability and custodian availability. Cindy will check on the prices for
the breakfasts with the cafeteria and see about lining up 3 cafeteria staff
persons for the event.
We still need a chairperson
for the Santa Breakfast if anyone is interested please contact the PTO.
We currently only have 25
coolers lined up for the carnival we need at least 25 more. If you have a
cooler we can use at the carnival please contact the PTO.
The Next PTO Board meeting
will be held on Nov. 7th at
