Committees:

Bedtime Stories - This  committee will be responsible for providing the cookies and milk for the Bedtime Stories night event.

Book Fair - Two book fairs are typically held each year. Proceeds from the fall book fair support the library. The Spring book fair is a Buy 1, Get 1 free event.  Committee members are needed to set up the books, schedule volunteers to work at the book fair, and to pack up the books the last day of the event.

The 2009 Fall Book Fair will be Nov. 2nd thru the 6th
The 2010 Spring Book Fair (Buy One - Get One Free) will be in May 

Boxtops for Education - This committee will be responsible for collecting, promoting, and re-deeming the boxtops for education coupons for each classroom. The committee can determine the best method for generating interest in the process - be it contests, flyers, rewards. 

NOTE - We are no longer collecting the Labels for Education labels.

Breakfast with Santa - Held in conjunction with the Holiday Boutique. Committee members coordinate the guest of honor (Santa), plan and provide the breakfast food for sale, arrange for a photographer and organize the volunteers for the event.

Carnival - The fall carnival is an evening of fun for all! This is our biggest event and requires several committees to plan the attractions, food, prizes, and games. Planning for this event begins in the summer. For more information on the various sub-committees click

Entertainment Book Sales - This committee will coordinate the Entertainment book sales with the vendor and students.

Family Game Night Committee - This committee is responsible for organizing the Family Game Night activities, volunteers and food. They make sure there are lots of things for the families to do including Bingo, Legos, Coloring, Movies, and other games. There will be two events per year.

Grocery Store Committee - This committee's job is to publize the opportunities for making easy money for Zaharis. This means making flyers to make sure the parents know how to link thier frequent shopper cards up,  and talking it up! The stores that currently support Zaharis are Bashas, Fry's Safeway (through Escrip) and Albertsons.

Holiday Boutique - This is a fun event where parents can showcase their handy work and shop too! Committee members coordinate table sign-ups, organizing, and advertising for the event. This coincides with the Breakfast with Santa.

Newsletter/Communication - The purpose of this committee is to prepare and distribute a periodic newsletter highlighting PTO activities throughout the year, and communicate PTO events with the students and their families.

Restaurant Night Committee - This committee is responsible for Selecting Vendors, setting dates, and advertizing the events. Events include Pizza Nights, Goldent Spoon Nights etc.

Staff Appreciation- The purpose of this committee is to coordinate events throughout the school year to show our appreciation to our WONDERFUL staff at Zaharis. Important events include welcoming events in Mid-August when staff returns to school, staff birthdays, holidays, and teacher and staff appreciation days/weeks. Committee members plan the events and coordinate food and volunteers as needed.

Triathalon - The purpose of this committed it to raise funds for important projects. This event consist of three events (but are not limited to), Reading, Running, and Math. Students get pledges before the event and collect the donations after the event. The responsibilities for this Chairperson consists of sending home the pledge packets, coordinating volunteers for the event, and collecting the pledge packets and money. This event is usually done in the spring.

Volunteer Manager - The purpose of this committee is to coordinate the efforts to keep the PTO Volunteer manager up-to-date and help sub-committees obtain lists from this system to recruit help for various events.

Zaharis Directory
- The purpose of this committee is to plan the Zaharis school phone directory, collect information, ads, money, and permission slips, and produce the final product. If you are interested in advertising in the Zaharis Directory - please contact the PTO.

Zaharis Spirit Products - The purpose of this committee is to fill orders for Spirit products and ensure the items are in stock as needed.

Zaharis Yearbook - This committee is responsible for gathering pictures, coordinating orders, and the production and distribution of the yearbook.

Web Master - The purpose of this committee is to keep the PTO web page up-to-date with the latest calendar events, newsletters, and minutes to the meetings.
